Baby Tengkek is fed by a large lizard

Baby Tengkek was small, fragile, and alone when the forest decided his fate would not end in silence. Nestled among fallen leaves near a riverbank, the young animal was weak from hunger, his tiny body trembling with every breath. His calls were soft and uncertain, easily lost beneath the sounds of wind and insects. Survival seemed unlikely for such a helpless creature in a world ruled by size and strength.

Unexpectedly, help came from an unlikely guardian. A large lizard, ancient-looking and slow in its movements, appeared from the shadows of the undergrowth. Known in the forest as a quiet scavenger and patient observer, the lizard paused when it noticed Baby Tengkek. Instead of turning away, it lingered, sensing vulnerability rather than opportunity. In a rare moment of instinct beyond hunger, the reptile stayed.

Each day, the lizard returned. It brought scraps of food it had gathered nearby—small insects and bits of nourishment that Baby Tengkek could manage. Though clumsy and unfamiliar, the feeding kept the young one alive. The lizard stood watch as Baby Tengkek ate, its steady presence offering protection from predators that might have seen an easy meal. The forest, usually indifferent, seemed to hold its breath.

As days passed, Baby Tengkek grew stronger. His movements became more confident, his eyes brighter. The bond between the two creatures was silent and strange, formed not by choice but by circumstance. No rules of nature explained why a large lizard would care for such a tiny life, yet it did.

Eventually, Baby Tengkek no longer needed help. One morning, he wandered off into the forest, steady on his feet and ready to face the world. The lizard watched him disappear, then slowly turned back to its solitary path. In the wild, kindness is rare—but when it appears, it can change everything.
