The BEST Lion Sighting I've Ever Had!
This incredible lion sighting was filmed at Magotho Campsite in the Khwai Concession, one of the most amazing places for wildlife viewing in Botswana! Magotho Campsite lies in the heart of the Khwai Community Concession, just outside the famous Okavango Delta. The area is known for its raw wilderness, rich wildlife, and unforgettable encounters with animals like lions, elephants, hippos, and more.
When I visited, I was lucky to capture these lions on camera. They were relaxed and majestic, moving slowly through the tall grass beside our camp before disappearing back into the bush. This is the beauty of Magotho — it is unfenced, and animals roam freely, sometimes right next to your campsite!
Magotho Campsite is part of the Khwai Concession, which borders the northern edge of Moremi Game Reserve. Because of this, wildlife moves easily between these areas, giving self-drivers and overlanders a real chance to see big game without needing a guided tour or expensive safari. Many people who stay here see elephants and lions during the day and can hear hippos or lions at night near their tents.
I filmed this sighting as part of my “Best of Botswana Overlanding” series on my channel. In this series, you’ll not only see more lions but also our adventures exploring other stunning parts of Botswana — including Khwai, Kubu Island, Savuti, Moremi, and Mashatu.
