Naughty Lion Cubs Bother Dad Trying to Sleep
Under the warm afternoon sun, a big lion named Kanu lay stretched beneath a wide acacia tree. After a long night of patrolling his territory, the mighty father lion was ready for a deep, peaceful nap. His golden mane rested softly on the grass, and his eyes slowly closed as the breeze moved through the savanna.
But peace never lasts long when you have lion cubs.
Nearby, two mischievous little cubs were full of energy. While their father tried to sleep, they whispered to each other and looked for something fun to do. One cub noticed something moving slowly back and forth in the grass.
It was Dad’s tail.
The fluffy tail flicked lazily, swishing from side to side like a playful snake. To the cubs, it looked like the perfect toy.
One cub crouched low, wiggling its tiny hind legs. Its eyes focused carefully on the moving tail.
Pounce!
The cub jumped and grabbed the tail with both paws. The second cub quickly joined in, biting gently and rolling around with it like it was a wild animal. The tail flicked harder as Kanu’s ears twitched.
The big lion opened one eye.
He let out a low, sleepy rumble, hoping the cubs would stop. For a few seconds, the cubs froze. But the moment his eyes closed again, the tail moved once more.
That was all the invitation they needed.
The cubs attacked again, wrestling the tail, kicking it with their tiny paws and tumbling over each other. One cub even tried to drag it away like a prize.
Finally, Kanu lifted his massive head and gave a deep “GRRRR!”
The cubs stopped instantly, staring up at their father with wide innocent eyes.
For a moment, the big lion looked annoyed. Then he slowly sighed, stood up, and walked a few steps away before lying down again—this time with his tail safely tucked beside him.
The cubs looked at each other… and immediately started planning their next game.
